Once upon a time, snow was beautiful, and glittered on its way down to the ground from the sky. I used to love making a hill for sledding, making snow angels and snowmen, or just running around and laying down in the fluffy goodness. Then, I went to Penn State and somehow my love for the fluffy stuff was ruined by day after winter day trudging through 6 inches of snow on the way to an 8 AM class with no snow day in sight. Gee, I just can't imagine how!
But, in spite of snow after snow in Central PA, I still never had the opportunity to pick out a Christmas Tree during a falling snow, because we live in New Jersey, after all. Cut to Winter 2013-2014 and the snowiest winter I can remember....
After much discussion, my family decided that a fresh cut tree was the way to go this year, so we picked a date and planned to be home before the first "light snow" event of the year, which was set to begin in late afternoon.
We found some reviews of Triple Dog Dare You online, and decided to try a new place because the prices seemed so reasonable. I wish I could say that didn't matter, but hey, money talks, and because of it, we got to have a brand new tree farm experience!
When we left home, we were surprised that it was starting to snow already, hours before it was supposed to. We traveled the 20 minutes to Triple Dog Dare You, and by the time we got there....
...the ground was already starting to get covered!
We took a sled ride out to a field, where they had laid out some of their already cut trees first. It was magical, complete with hanging snowflakes... and sled dogs!
The "sled dogs" didn't pull our sled, but they were very sweet and very talented at not getting hit by the sled!
Out in the snowy field with some pre-cut trees
After checking out the pre-cut trees, we decided to try to find a tree to cut to take home with us, hoping it would be fresher. Some of the bigger trees would be cut, but we tried to find something big enough....
This little guy in the front was my favorite... do you think he's big enough?
In the end, we decided to head back to the front to find a pre-cut tree for this year, but we will be back to pick out a tree from the field one of these years once they have a big of time to grow. The snow made our trip pretty magical, but the sleigh ride would have been fun either way. AND we got a great price.... adventurous success!
Here's a few more shots including Moose enjoying the first (surprise!) snow of the season!
The tree we chose!
The Nittany Lion and hair full of snow was a fun adventure for the ride home...
We made it home safe, but the roads were pretty sketchy!
SNOW PUP!
